4 summer activities near santa jose, ca

You’ll find so much to do in Santa Clara, CA, especially during the summer months. Don’t miss our four favorite summer activities that take place in and around the city. You’ll be blown away by all of the Bay Area summer activities you can take your family to.

1. Santa Clara Farmers Market

Grab your fresh local produce at this weekly event, held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the Urban Village Farmers Market Association. Market vendors who sell agricultural products here must be certified by the state of California. You’ll also find food and beverage stands, as well as rotating artisan booths.

The Santa Clara Farmers Market takes place at Jackson St and Homestead Rd. Check the calendar for a schedule of live music and other special events.

2. Foundation and Friends Santa Clara City Library Book Sale

We love browsing this book sale for an awesome selection of new and used books with prices starting at just $1. You’ll find hardcover, paperback, reference books, cookbooks, nonfiction, and much more.

The Foundation and Friends sale takes place on the third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Summer dates include June 17, July 15, and August 19 at Central Park Library, 2635 Homestead Rd.

3. Full Moon Hike at Grant Park

This cool summer event takes place about 6 miles from Santa Clara at the Yerba Buena Trail in San Jose. You’ll get the chance to look for the animals that come out in the park at night with the guidance of a ranger. Register in advance for this free public program with Santa Clara County Parks. It takes place on June 17 from 8 to 10 a.m. Meet at Stockman’s Lot just inside the park, which is located at 18405 Mt Hamilton Rd.

4. 40th Annual Italian Family Festa

The food alone is worth the 10-mile trip to San Jose for this annual event, held this year on August 5 and 6 in History Park. You can enjoy live entertainment, live cooking demonstrations, vendors, and kids’ activities. There’s also a wine tasting and you can even get a chance to stomp on grapes to try a traditional part of the winemaking process.

The Italian Family Festa is open from 11 a.m. to 8 pm. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at 1650 Senter Rd. Admission is free and food vendors will be selling selections like pasta, pizza, cannolis, meatball and sausage sandwiches, and fried calamari along with traditional fair food.
